Recordó que entre 1997 y 1998, cuando se implementó la privatización de los ferrocarriles a través de las concesiones de largo plazo a 50 años -a diferencia de los puertos de 20 y 30 años-, se permitió un horizonte de inversión importante para los accionistas que entraron a este sistema.
Wetzel enfatizó que las inversiones en obras de infraestructura y equipamiento de los últimos 18 años -tales como la adquisición de locomotoras, carros, libramientos y otros-, superaron los seis mil millones de dólares en la red ferroviaria, mientras que en 2017 se presupuestaron más de 600 millones de dólares.
