«El impulso a la infraestructura para el movimiento de materias primas y de la producción industrial representa uno de los retos más importantes para el futuro económico del país, lo que requiere incrementar y hacer más eficiente la inversión pública y privada», dijo Erich Wetzel Storsberg, presidente de la Asociación Mexicana del Transporte Intermodal (AMTI).
“La columna vertebral del intermodalismo son los ferrocarriles, si tenemos un sistema eficiente que puede integrar todas las inversiones que se están haciendo -incluso las sobredimensionadas-, tenemos que adaptar la infraestructura ferroviaria y la capacidad de operación, las carreteras y la capacidad de los puertos interiores en donde se va a recibir toda la carga”.
Erich Wetzel, quien lidera este organismo que promueve el desarrollo de políticas para el movimiento de los sistemas intermodales de carga del país, participó en el 9° Foro Nacional IMEF de Infraestructura, donde se ventilaron acciones clave encaminadas a ofrecer respuestas a los retos de la demanda de servicios de punta. Recordó que entre 1997 y 1998, cuando se implementó la privatización de los ferrocarriles a través de las concesiones de largo plazo a 50 años -a diferencia de los puertos de 20 y 30 años-, se permitió un horizonte de inversión importante para los accionistas que entraron a este sistema.
Wetzel enfatizó que las inversiones en obras de infraestructura y equipamiento de los últimos 18 años -tales como la adquisición de locomotoras, carros, libramientos y otros-, superaron los seis mil millones de dólares en la red ferroviaria, mientras que en 2017 se presupuestaron más de 600 millones de dólares.
En el panel participaron Renato Ibarra Peynetti, socio fundador de Corporación Multimodal y de Alianza Estratégica Portuaria; Jaime Aguilar Contreras, director general y representante ejecutivo de la Asociación de Terminales y Operadores Portuarios (ATOP) y José Enrique Canto Vivas, Vicepresidente de la Cámara Mexicana de la Industria de la Construcción.
Sobre proyectos para aumentar la eficiencia, Wetzel aseguró que para elevar la eficiencia del sistema ferroviario y cubrir las expectativas de demanda del movimiento de carga que se están generando en los puertos, se requiere la construcción de más libramientos ferroviarios en las ciudades que crecieron adyacentes a las redes del ferrocarril y que han repercutido en la velocidad de tránsito de los trenes.
