México es el primer país latinoamericano en presidir el FIT de la OCDE, como reconocimiento al Programa de Infraestructura que lleva a cabo la actual administración federal.
Gustavo Ruiz Esparza, secretario de Comunicaciones y Transportes, encabezará la Cumbre 2017 del Foro Internacional de Transporte (FIT), que integra a 57 países, en Leipzig, Alemania, del 31 de mayo al 2 de junio, evento en el que se emitirá una Declaración Ministerial que rubricarán las naciones participantes.

La Cumbre 2017 del FIT es el único organismo en el mundo en donde se reúnen los Ministros de Transporte de casi 60 países. Se tiene previsto que el titular de la SCT emita un mensaje y un discurso de bienvenida en la recepción presidencial.
El jueves 1 de junio se efectuará la reunión ministerial, que presidirá el secretario de Comunicaciones y Transportes y al término de ella se efectuará una fotografía grupal. El viernes 2 de junio estará presente en la sesión plenaria, donde se abordará el tema “Gobernanza en movilidad y acceso urbano”, la que será el cierre de la Cumbre, en donde se presentarán las conclusiones de la reunión.
Cabe destacar que entre el 3 y 7 de abril, la Subsecretaria de Transporte estuvo en París, Francia, para ultimar los trabajos de preparación de la Cumbre 2017 del FIT que se realizará el Leipzig, Alemania, en donde dirigió la selección final entre los candidatos a Secretario General del FIT, dentro de un proceso inédito que se ciñe a un nuevo estatuto, cuyas reglas correspondió a México poner en práctica por primera vez.
Este comité de selección estuvo integrado por un representante del Reino Unido, Canadá y Alemania, así como por dos directivos de la OCDE y un ex secretario general del Foro. Asimismo, coordinó la reunión del grupo de trabajo sobre Gobernanza en el Transporte, así como la del Consejo de Empresas del FIT, de cara a la Cumbre de Leipzig.
