“Ese es uno de los grandes problemas que han existido en los entornos educativos en línea, que la carga de trabajo de los tutores incrementa de manera drástica, nada más por el hecho de utilizar herramientas colaborativas como foros de discusión, chats, etcétera. Mediante las herramientas de inteligencia artificial, los tutores obtienen capacidades como predecir la calificación que obtendrá un estudiante o caracterizar su comportamiento de aprendizaje, lo que implica una disminución en su carga de trabajo».
“El tutor tiene la opción de recurrir a estas herramientas en diferentes momentos del curso y conseguir una predicción de cuál es la calificación que van a obtener los estudiantes, de tal forma que si detecta alumnos reprobados, los puede retroalimentar y advertirles que con el comportamiento que han tenido corren el riesgo de reprobar”, expuso el doctor Félix Castro. «A través de estas herramientas computacionales también se puede identificar el comportamiento de los estudiantes que han sido exitosos en un curso, así como caracterizar el tiempo que le dedican a la plataforma y las actividades que realizan».

Para probar las herramientas que el grupo de investigadores diseñó con base en algoritmos, también desarrollaron una plataforma que ya se instaló en la red interna de algunas instituciones, entre ellas la Universidad Abierta de Cataluña (UOC, por sus siglas en catalán).
El doctor Félix Castro mencionó que los datos que se generan de la usabilidad de las herramientas de inteligencia artificial integradas a la plataforma se convierten en materia prima para crear los modelos de análisis que su grupo de investigación diseña.
“Entrenamos modelos, hemos utilizado modelos inductivos y posteriormente lo que hacemos es probarlos con datos reales, que son calificaciones, perfil de los estudiantes, eso es lo que tomamos como datos. La plataforma con herramientas de inteligencia artificial también fue implementada para impartir cursos de la UAEH en el Instituto Latinoamericano de la Comunicación Educativa (ILCE) y en universidades politécnicas».
El conjunto de herramientas que aplican para mejorar ambientes educativos en línea está englobado dentro de la minería de datos, que consiste en una serie de técnicas que incluye limpiar datos, analizarlos y encontrar patrones, para apoyar en la toma de decisiones.
