Holcim México, una empresa de LafargeHolcim, informó que Labeling Sustainability Inc. y el Institute for Environmental Research and Education, con sede en Washington, otorgaron la Declaración Ambiental de Producto (EPD, por sus siglas en inglés), luego de llevar a cabo una verificación de los impactos ambientales del concreto que se usa en la construcción del proyecto de infraestructura más importante de México. El resultado de la EPD indica que el concreto elaborado en la planta de última generación de Holcim México ubicada en la obra del NAICM es de alta calidad y por encima del promedio del estándar que maneja, por ejemplo, la industria del concreto en los Estados Unidos.
La EPD es un informe que brinda datos cuantificados y verificables sobre el desempeño ambiental de un producto, un material o un servicio, en este caso el concreto. Este análisis se utiliza para valorar el impacto ambiental a lo largo del ciclo de vida de productos de acuerdo con la Norma Internacional UNE-EN ISO 14025.
