La Fundación UPS, que encabeza los programas de educación cívica global para UPS, anunció que otorgará más de 2.6 millones de dólares en donaciones a organizaciones sin fines de lucro dedicadas a iniciativas para el medio ambiente. Dichas iniciativas concuerdan con los nuevos objetivos de sostenibilidad de UPS para aumentar la dependencia en fuentes de energía renovables y reducir las emisiones absolutas de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI) en las operaciones terrestres mundiales.
Una donación importante respaldará al The World Resources Institute (WRI), organización de investigación global que brinda apoyo continuo a programas para el desarrollo del Greenhouse Gas Protocol, la iniciativa Science Based Targets y el uso sostenible del Renewable Natural Gas. Estos protocolos y objetivos se usaron para ayudar a establecer las metas ambientales de 2020 y 2025 en cuanto a emisiones, energía, combustible y vehículos de UPS. El financiamiento de La Fundación UPS para WRI ha ayudado a producir muchas de las normas y herramientas del protocolo de GEI que las compañías están usando para establecer y medir sus metas para la reducción de emisiones.
Las donaciones también se otorgarán a The Nature Conservancy y World Wildlife Fund (WWF), ambos socios de UPS.
